Have you ever tried something way outside of your comfort zone? Something you never imagined you would ever try? Have you ever imagined yourself throwing an axe to hit a target? Probably not, but I highly suggest you give it a try.
This past weekend Rach convinced the fam to go to Blade & Timber in KC to throw around some axes. Sounds dangerous, right?? Wrong! It was incredibly safe, exhilarating and an all around good time. Who knew throwing an axe could be so dang fun!
When we arrived, Zach (our coach at Blade & Timber) took the first few minutes to show us the basics of axe throwing - proper grip, where to stand, how to throw - and stayed with us the first few rounds to make sure we each got the hang of it. He was very personable and so encouraging. Zach came back to check on us a couple of times during our hour-long reservation and help us with our technique.
We divided our group of 6 into two teams and kept score (each ring on the target has a score from 1 to 6). First team to 50 without going over, wins. But, if you go over 50, your team score goes back to 40 and you have to keep trying for a perfect 50. The Santschi family loves playing games and friendly competition, so this unique entertainment experience was a huge hit!
Also, you can bring your own snacks and they had drinks available for purchase (no liquor). Each lane has a high top table and stools for comfortable, out of the way viewing, munching, and cheering on your teammates.
The next time you’re in KC, put Blade & Timber at the top of your things to do list. Axe throwing is a great way to celebrate special occasions, organize team-building events, or just hang out with friends and family. There's even a fun Photo Booth and cute t-shirts for sale. Rach and I had to get matching ones to sport while we are out! Blade & Timber, we WILL be back!
Rach discovered axe throwing when she did a story about Blade & Timber for KMBC last month.
She met some of the fantastic people there and got a lesson from our coach, Zach! Check it out in the video below.
